Beschrijving
Environment and Resource Management aan de Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is een éénjarige, Engelstalige MSc-opleiding. Het doel is dat studenten zich theoretische concepten, praktische vaardigheden en methoden en technieken eigen maken die hen in staat stellen om bij te dragen aan maatschappelijke problemen die te maken hebben met natuurlijke hulpbronnen en het milieu. De opleiding kiest een antropocentrisch perspectief waarin milieueconomie een belangrijke rol speelt.
De doelgroep bestaat uit studenten met minimaal een universitaire of HBO bachelor die zich (verder) willen bekwamen als professional op het gebied van milieubeleid.
De opleiding is begonnen in 2003 en heeft sindsdien 35-55 studenten per jaar gehad: grofweg 1/3 uit Nederland, 1/3 uit andere EU-landen en 1/3 uit de rest van de wereld. De gemiddelde leeftijd van de studenten is 28.

Doelstelling(en)
The main aim of the ERM programme is that students acquire theoretical concepts, practical skills and operational techniques that allow them to find solutions for societal problems that relate to natural resources and the environment. Students are trained to bring in their disciplinary knowledge and co-operate in multidisciplinary teams so that they can contribute to an integrated approach towards problem analysis and problem solving in private, public, national and international organizations dealing with natural resources and the environment.
Doelgroepen
The target group for the MSc programme Environment & Resource Management (ERM) is students from a range of disciplinary backgrounds (including engineering, natural sciences, economics, law, and relevant social sciences), who aim to have a professional career in environment and resource management. They must have a Bachelor's Degree from a Dutch university or equivalent (not less than 3 years of full-time university study). Adequate English language skills are an absolute requirement for participation in the programme. Annually 35-55 students enroll in ERM, 1/3 from the Netherlands, 1/3 from other EU countries and 1/3 from the rest of the world. Average age of the students is around 28.

In principle, all disciplinary backgrounds are considered by the Examination Board, but the following are especially suitable as a basis for starting the ERM programme:

2 Social Sciences, in particular Political Science and Policy Studies;
3 Natural Sciences;
4 Engineering;
5 Environmental Studies and Environmental Sciences;
6 Environmental Law.

Opmerkingen
The ERM programme aims to create a common language among experts from relevant disciplines, enabling them to effectively work on environmental problems in multidisciplinary settings. In addition, the programme provides a 'toolkit' of multidisciplinary techniques and methods.
ERM takes an anthropocentric perspective in which economic approaches often play a key role.
